Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One-of-a-kind Album
I bought this album last year and enjoyed it so much that I have been searching for Watson's second album. Not finding any new album in the local record store since he is still relatively unknown in the US, my daughter suggested searching Amazon.com. At this site, I started reading the reviews on the VOICE, expecting nothing but 5-Star reviews but to my surprise saw these terrible criticisms of this remarkable, classical singer. I cannot believe these reviews. This is not a 1-star recording. At the very least, a true critic would rate this a 3-Star rating. Watson sings each song in this album with passion and beautifully, ranging from the classical aria, Nessun Dorma, to the pop song, Bridge Over Troubled Water. I, myself, thought his versions of Caruso, Miserere, and Pelagia's Song were outstanding. I am a music buff and appreciate talent when I hear it. Russell Watson is talented. When I hear a singer who is terrible, I also know it. These critics, sadly, for some reason, cannot tolerate Russell Watson's phenomenal success. This is an exceptional, one-of-a-kind album.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fallen in love with Mr. Watson's voice
No amount of flattery would do Russell Watson's debut CD, "The Voice", justice. I'm still revelling, absolutely basking in the angelic warmth and moving love of his voice. In fact, I purchased two of the same CD and have set his CDs on repeat in my stereo systems both at home and in my car.

Having fortuitously captured Mr. Watson's breathtaking PBS performance at Taj Mahal on my t.v. whilest channel-surfing, I was stunned and riveted at the beauty and brilliant resonance of his voice -- its purity, sweetness, and overwhelming ability to envelop and elevate you to a higher, almost heavenly place. I immediately went in search of his CD the next day and am completely enraptured by all his songs, particularly his renditions of "Nella fantasia," "Miserere," and "Funiculi -- funicula," all sung solo. You can tell there have been no special accoustic modulating and fidgeting with recording equipment and the gorgeous sounds are coming from his voice alone.

I have listened to many opera singers and love very few; perhaps because I find many of their voices pretentious and arrogant, over-blown and self-congratulatory. However, the opposite is true of Mr. Watson. There is a certain genuineness and depth of passion in Mr. Watson's voice that draws you to it. It's as if every note he sings speaks directly to you and tells you a distinct story, and in sexy songs such as "Someone Like You," his voice is very much a serenade.

I am, simply put, in love with Russell Watson's voice. I await enthusiastically for his next album.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Adding Watson to my Classical CDs
I will only purchase a classical album that I can listen to continuously and not toss aside. As some reviewers have indicated, I too cannot understand how people will buy a CD and later criticize all of its drawbacks or listen to a friend's album and then make a special effort to write a critical review for the sake of classical music. But I don't want to waste my time with the critics. If you want an amazing array of music on one CD with an unbelievable way of singing each song with a different voice, then try Russell Watson. First, I would listen to some sample music, and, if it is not to your liking, then, do as the rest of us, dismiss it and find a recording that will give you the musical pleasure that you seek. My own personal CD collection consists of Pavarotti, Domingo, Alagna, Callas, among others. I am adding Watson to this collection because I enjoy his pure natural voice, as one reviewer so aptly described. Buy this album if you enjoy amazing versatility. If you are going to listen to every single note or flaw in Watson's voice, then leave it.
