Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - As good as you make it...
After a debut album that managed to seamlessly float through different paces and emotions finally resulting in a "classic" release, it's needless to say, a follow-up album that would compete with the original would be difficult. Educated listeners should not make such comparisons. Day I Forgot should be listened to as if you never heard Pete Yorn's Musicforthemorningafter (You may have to pop this one in the cd player and let it play through 4 or 5 times to make that happen... but it will). Keep that in mind, and you will not be disappointed. You will love this album for many of the same reasons that you loved the first one. With the exception of Track 4, every song is classic. Most of the songs are cut from one of two molds: medium paced manifestation or slow melancholy with both formats either loving or lamenting. Each song evokes it's own emotion. Each will be interpreted differently by those who listen. My two personal favorites both reach opposite extremes. "When You See the Light" is an upbeat song that will have you noddin' your head when you're driving with the sunroof open on a cool spring night, while "Turn of the Century" will have you regretfully questioning past relationships. But every song will grab an emotion. It truely is as good as you'd like it to be. So if you go in listening to this album saying, "This isn't Musicforthemorningafter," then you will be correct and left disappointed.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Pop Rock That's Not
Well, I have to say that I have been listening to "Day I Forgot" every day since I bought it on the release date 4/15. I have noticed a few things different from MFTMA. Yorn isn't as musically involved as in the first album, which shows signs of broadening his own talents. These songs seem to be a little bit more "poppy", but there are also some songs that seem a bit more like hard rock. Pete is a Punk Rocker at heart, and some of that seems to come out in his second album.
I would say that my favorite song is "Long Way Down" partly because it reminds me a lot of Springstein. I think Pete Yorn is widely considered to be "The Boss'" protege, and I think that this song proves it. "Long Way Down" is also very strong lyrically, and there is a lot of feeling and emotion. I don't know what that person was saying about this album sounding like "emo". Emo is a musical phase, but Pete Yorn is a legend in the making.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Something Different
I cannot call this album a sophomore slumper. It would have to be terrible to deserve that description. It's not terrible. Day I Forgot is a good listen. It's a little more raw, as opposed to the "commercial" catchiness of MFTMA (come on now, I LOVE MTMA, but it's true. "Strange Condition" was used in several movies). "Come Back Home" is probably going to be the first single off this album. It's a very good tune, sounding more akin to MFTMA. The rest of the album sounds very personal, almost like a week in the life of Pete Yorn. It seemed almost like I was listening to a singer who decided to write some songs about his life and make a CD. Pete Yorn is a very talented, obviously emotional singer. Day I Forgot is a great vehicle for his talents. He's showing us that he doesn't have to deliver grandiose, commercial productions like MFTMA every time he releases a CD, thankfully. I believe he's got more in store for those who enjoy his music.
